ABOUT THIS BOOK (from the foreword)

YOGASHASTRA is divided into 5 parts:
Part 1

It explains how to sit correctly and recite the prayer for the sage Patanjali. The meaning of prayer is also explained so that you know why you are praying. You will also find an overview of Patanjali's life and the history of yoga.

Part 2

You will then be told ten stories to help you understand the meaning of Yama and Niyama, the first two stages of yoga.

Part 3

You will then get to know the yoga poses: These are called asanas. You will learn about the discipline required to practise the asanas. The name, meaning, expression and technique of each asana are explained in detail so that you can easily follow the descriptions when practicing.

Part 4

Here you will find instructions for your exercise practice that will familiarize you with yoga and soon make it indispensable.

Part 5

This part is an exercise book for at home, with which you can repeat, learn and deepen the contents of yoga at any time.
