Iyengar Yoga European Teachers Convention 2009 with Dr. Geeta S. Iyengar, transcribed with sketches and photos

Description

by Geeta Iyengar

2019; 353 pages, many photos and sketches.

We practiced for 5 days under Geetaji's guidance. Now published after 10 years of preparation: The recordings of the convention were transcribed and prepared for written form. Sketches and photos complement the content. Geeta's last conference in Europe, her direct last word to us teachers. English. 353 pages on high quality paper.

Margarete's review: The transcription of the above convention, first published in 2019, is a unique, successful, richly illustrated book in which a whole series of dedicated Iyengar yoga teachers from several countries were involved.
The 353 pages (in English) contain many photos from the Cologne Convention and, above all, excellent illustrations that show and clarify Geetaji's explanations and instructions in the individual postures, so that even less experienced teachers can immediately understand what she was aiming for here.
The texts reflect Geetaji's unmistakable teaching style and her powerful words in an unadulterated, reliable and very lively way. Anyone who has had the privilege of experiencing her in person will immediately hear her voice in their ears when reading the texts!
All five teaching days (May 12 - 16, 2009) are transcribed, clearly organized into pranayama and asana units. Step by step, clear instructions are given to explore, perceive and align the body from the outside in and to help center the mind. Lively, differentiated, every one of Geetaji's words is spot on.
This book lets you feel Geetaji's spirit like no other. It accurately captures her vivid, penetrating, clear words. Her incredible talent for seeing people and understanding their bodies, coupled with half a century of teaching experience, is palpable, as is her ability to convey living yoga philosophy practically in and through asana work.
You could read the book from cover to cover, page by page, lesson by lesson. In the same way, you can open it at will and with every single word or sentence from Geetaji you will immediately be inspired for your own yoga practice and/or your own upcoming lessons.
z. e.g. page 80 "How to sit for prayer" - so clear, so real, intense, sensitively instructed on how to connect the outer layer of the body with the mind, the brain, the breath and finally with the heart, so that silence sets in.
Or e.g. p. 61 "Prasarita Padottanasana"
In five pages, Geetaji vividly explains the situation, the corrections she makes, the tools that are useful or not useful, tailored to the individual student.
This is how she proceeds in all the asanas she teaches: what do I look for as a teacher? Which aid helps which body? How can the asana work be experienced better, more deeply, more intensely, more holistically? What do you feel? For me, this book has become THE inspiration for my own practicing and teaching; I see this book as Geeta Iyengar's legacy to us Iyengar yoga teachers. After her passing in 2018, this will become even clearer and even more important.
